Organize your Word documents using the Navigation Pane
Use the Navigation Pane to jump between pages or to a heading in a Word document without scrolling.
To open the Navigation pane, click View > Navigation Pane.
Browse by headings
If you have applied heading styles to the headings in the body of your document, those headings will appear in the Navigation pane. The Navigation pane doesn’t display headings that are in tables, text boxes, or headers or footers.
- In the Navigation pane, click the Headings tab.
- To jump to a heading in your document, click that heading in the Navigation pane. Word highlights the heading in the Navigation pane to show you where you are.
Tip: To show or hide the subheadings under a heading, click the arrow next to the heading.
Browse by page
Click Pages. Then click a thumbnail image to go to that page. Word highlights the page you’re on in the Navigation pane to show you where you are.
