Windows Hello: A Secure Sign-In Method

Windows Hello provides a fast, secure, and convenient way to sign in to your Windows devices using a PIN, facial recognition (if supported), or fingerprint authentication (if supported).

Security Note

Your biometric data is stored entirely and exclusively on your device’s security chip. Windows Hello does not sync this data between devices or to your Microsoft account.
For facial recognition, Windows Hello uses a camera configured for near infrared (IR) imaging, ensuring secure and reliable authentication. This technology can unlock your Windows device and your Microsoft Passport.

How to Set Up Windows Hello

1.    Open the Settings app on your Windows device.
2.    Navigate to Accounts > Sign-in options.
3.    Under Ways to sign in, select one of the Windows Hello options:

  • PIN (Windows Hello): Set up a PIN for device access.
  • Facial recognition (Windows Hello): Use a Hello-compatible infrared camera to enable facial recognition.
  • Fingerprint recognition (Windows Hello): Configure sign-in with a fingerprint reader.

4.    Click Set up.
5.    Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup process.

Sign-in Experience

Once configured, you can use your chosen sign-in method to securely access your device, eliminating the need for a password while ensuring privacy and protection.
