Microsoft Copilot: Enterprise vs. Public AI
When using AI tools at Northwest University, it’s important to understand the difference between enterprise (work) and consumer (public) AI toolsets, even when both are branded as Microsoft Copilot. For data security, privacy, and compliance, NU’s preferred and approved option is Copilot Chat (enterprise/work version).
How to Access Enterprise (Work) Copilot for NU Data:
- Web Access:
- Use the Microsoft 365 link at the top of the Eagle Website or go directly to https://m365.cloud.microsoft/chat and sign in with your NU credentials.
- Microsoft Edge:
- While signed in to Edge with your NU account, click the Copilot logo in the upper-right corner next to the ellipsis.
- Native Windows App:
- Press the Copilot key on your NU-provisioned Dell laptop or Dell wireless keyboard.
Ensure you’re using the enterprise version of Copilot Chat – look for the green checkmark shield icon, indicating Enterprise Data Protection (EDP) is applied:
