Syncing Teams and SharePoint Files with File Explorer

You can sync your Microsoft SharePoint and Teams files to a folder on your computer, allowing you to work directly in File Explorer and access files even when offline. Any changes made while offline will sync automatically once you reconnect to the internet

How to Set Up Syncing

  1. Open Teams and navigate to the General channel of the Team you want to sync.
  2. Click Documents (in the left part of Documents > General) to move up one folder level. You should see two groupings: In channels and In site library.  (When you create a Standard Channel in Teams, a folder with the same name is automatically created in the associated SharePoint site.)
  3. Click the Sync option in the toolbar, then select Open if prompted to confirm the request.
  4. Once syncing is complete, the Team name followed by “ - Documents” will appear in the left pane of File Explorer.

Note: If you sync only a single channel, you will not have access to files from other channels in the Team. To include all channels and folders, you must stop the current sync and resync the entire Documents library.

How to Stop a Sync and Remove the Link

  1. Click the OneDrive icon in the system tray (near the date and time).
  2. Click the Help & Settings gear and select Settings.
  3. Under the Account tab, find the Team or SharePoint site and click Stop Sync.
  4. Open File Explorer, right-click the folder you just stopped syncing, and select Delete.
  5. Follow steps above to re-sync the entire Documents library.
