How to Modify Microsoft Teams Meeting Recording Expiration Dates

Microsoft introduced an auto-expiration feature for Teams meeting recordings earlier this year. Recordings are deleted 60 days after they are recorded if action is not taken.

A yellow banner displayed underneath all Teams recordings states: “This recording is set to expire. View or change the expiration date here.”  The meeting organizer will be able to modify the expiration date.

Meeting recordings are automatically saved in OneDrive or SharePoint, depending on how the meeting was created:

OneDrive

Teams meetings created via the Outlook Calendar or during an ad-hoc Video Call are saved to a folder called Meetings in the organizer’s OneDrive.

SharePoint:

Teams meetings connected to a Teams Channel are saved to a folder called Recordings in that Channel. The meeting organizer will be able to modify the expiration date.

Steps to Modify the Expiration Date

  1. Find the desired recording in the Recordings or Meetings Folder.
  2. Click the associated ellipsis and select Details
  3. Click the calendar icon and select the desired option.
